Description I09443NA.EDS contains an ionospheric electron density profile for Io derived from Galileo (GLL) radio occultation data during orbit 9 (1997-07-31T15:14 to 1997-07-31T15:59).
Note Raw samples of DSN receiver output were filtered and corrected for observing geometry. A back propagation algorithm was used to remove effects of diffraction and multipath propagation. Estimates of signal frequency versus time were then converted to bending angle versus impact parameter. These results were inverted to refractive index as a function of radius via an Abel transform. Electron number density was obtained from refractive index using a conversion formula appropriate to the measurement frequency (2295 MHz). See Hinson et al. (Geophys. Res. Lett., 24, 2107-2110, 1997; J. Geophys. Res., 103, 9505-9520, 1998) for more details. Latitudes and longitudes on Jupiter are given in the IAU 1994 reference frame (Davies et al., Celest. Mech. Dyn. Astron., 63, 127, 1995).
