Juno JEDI Uncalibrated (EDR) Jupiter Data
==============================================================================
Brief Volume Description
==============================================================================
This volume contains JUNO JEDI (Jupiter Energetic-Particle Detector)
uncalibrated observations, also known as EDRs. The system is made up of 3
instrument subsystems (pucks) aligned in three directions on the spinning
JUNO spacecraft. The pucks each have 6 look directions (telescopes) with a
time of flight (TOF) and a deposited energy detection (SSD) system. In
addition, the pulse height of the signal in the TOF system can be used for
energy measurement. The instruments can be operated in a variety of modes,
differing in the way they use and combine these measurements. More details
are available in the CATALOG/INSTRUMENT.CAT file and the JEDI SIS.
The EDRs are organized in files covering one day of spacecraft event time
(SCET). There are potentially 10 different files per puck, corresponding to
the available data gathering modes: HIERSESP, HIERSISP, HIERSTOFXER,
HIERSTOFXPHR, LOERSESP, LOERSISP, LOERSTOFXER, LOERSTOFXPHR, NONPTOFXER,
NONPTOFXPHR. Depending on how the pucks are operated, not all data types
will be available for all pucks for any particular time range.
Data files are stored in the 'DATA' branch of the directory tree. The
data are organized into subdirectories by year and day of year.
The data on this volume are ASCII tables. The data files are named
according to the convention:
JED_AAA_TYPENAME_(E|C)DR_YYYYDDD_VNN.TAB
where:
AAA is 090, 180, or 270 depending on the specific JEDI sensor
TYPENAME is a character string indicating the type of data (a list is
provided in the JEDI SIS, Table 23, p. 55.
TYPENAME is followed by EDR or CDR depending on the data level
YYYYDDD is the year and day of year as described above
NN is the version number of the file (starting with 01)
The file extension for the data files is '.TAB'.
Users of these data are encouraged to acknowledge both the PDS and the
principal investigators of the instruments whose data are used in analysis
in all publications. Please use the CITATION_DESC found in the file
CATALOG/JEDI_J_EDR_DS.CAT for citing this data set.

File Formats
==============================================================================
The data files on this volume are files are ASCII tables. The data files have
detached PDS labels. The PDS label is an ASCII file containing information
describing spacecraft, target, and observation parameters characterizing the
associated data file.
A data set description, instrument description, and other PDS documents
are in .CAT files in the /CATALOG directory. In more recent versions of the
Microsoft Windows operating system the .CAT by default is reserved as
'Security Catalog.' The .CAT files contained in this volume are ASCII text
files, and can be read by any form of text editor. To make Windows open
files with this name extension as text files right click the .CAT file, select
with and choose a text editor to open the file.
Additional documentation is located in the DOCUMENT directory.
==============================================================================
Errata
==============================================================================
Every effort has been made to assure that the data and documentation are of
the best possible quality. However, mistakes are inevitable. There is a file
called ERRATA.TXT found at the root level of this volume which contains a list
of known deficiencies or caveats associated with data on this volume at the
time this volume was produced.
==============================================================================
